74% would prefer to shop in physical store

Only 26% of Canadians would prefer to buy online rather than from a physical store. Since we are in the heart of the shopping period, this is the natural question of the month.

The preference for bricks and mortar is striking given the challenges in the retail sector in Canada but even at 26%, this is a staggering amount of the economy that has shifted to virtual stores. As the Angus Reid Institute report shows, groceries (5% prefer online) are the area with the least interest in online shopping.

The Angus Reid Institute conducted an online survey from October 24 – 27, 2017 (n=1504 from Angus Reid Forum). Research was self-funded.
